A new generation of designers—including Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, and London’s Meadham Kirchhoff—are revitalising the 80’s for spring/summer 2009. The 80’s has been revived slowly over the last few years now, but perhaps SS 2009 is the season it will truly come back to life with a vengeance. I’ve always favoured the late 80’s-90’s aesthetic. Shoulder pads? Ripped denim and shredded lace anyone? Triple yes! I recently brought a black draped jersey dress. It already has an 80’s vibe, but I’ve been thinking since I first clapped eyes on it, some shoulder pads would really make it hit the spot…I’m calling this “Trashion”, definition: Item of clothing customised to look 80’s…you heard it here first! A little tip; pop down your local charity shop and pick up something cheap you can cut the shoulder pads from, then tack to said item. I’ll try just that in a few weeks, and post results as soon as. Gosh a tip and a new term…my creative juices are-a-flowing today! Bet it’s been done/said before though…damn it…just don’t tell me, let me have my moment!
